It's easy to get around Iowa City and Coralville -- even if you don't have a car or you prefer to leave it at home. The Iowa City-Coralville area's three bus systems -- the University Cambus, Iowa City Transit, and Coralville Transit -- work together for you.
Interstate 80 runs East-West through the Iowa City and Coralville Area. Highway 218 (planned to run from St. Paul, Minnesota to St. Louis, Missouri) intersects with Interstate 80 just west of Coralville. Approximate distances from nearby major cities are (click on the small round image for a map):

If you prefer flying, the closest commercial airport is in Cedar Rapids (about 30 minutes away by car). NorthWest, United, TWA, American Eagle, Chicago Express, Delta Connection, and USAir Express all fly into the Cedar Rapids Airport. Several shuttle services run regular services between the airport and the Iowa City/Coralville Area:
The University of Iowa Cambus is a no-fare, fixed-route public transit service that provides frequent intercampus transportation for students, faculty, staff, and the general public. With 130 student employees, the colorful yellow Cambusses serve the entire campus.
Cambus provides three levels of service throughout the year -- academic, interim, and summer. Weekend service is provided during the academic periods. Service levels change during these periods for the Red, Blue, and Interdorm routes. The Pentacrest, Hospital, Oakdale, Hawkeye, and East Campus Shuttle routes remain constant year-round.

Red & Blue Routes -- Circle entire campus in opposite directions; 6:30 a.m. to midnight (weekend service, too).
Interdorm Route -- All residence halls to main campus/downtown area; 6:50 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Pentacrest Route -- North hospital area, westside commuter lots to main campus/downtown area; 6:30 a.m. to midnight.
Hospital Routes -- All commuter lots to the hospital; 5:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Oakdale Route -- Oakdale campus to north hospital area; 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Hawkeye Route -- Hawkeye Apartments to main campus/downtown area; 6:35 p.m. to midnight (weekend service, too).
East Campus Shuttle Route -- S. Madison St. area (Lot 11) to main campus downtown area; 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
SafeRide Service -- A late-night service operated Friday and Saturday nights during the fall and spring academic periods. Service from Schaeffer Hall to residence halls and "to-the-door" of off-campus residences; 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
The Bionic Bus system is a specialized transportation service for faculty, staff, and students with disabilities. The Bionic Bus is a door-to-door, demand-response service that is provided via wheelchair lift-equipped mini-buses. Interested persons should contact the Bionic Bus supervisor for service, eligibility, and scheduling information at the number listed above.
Iowa City Transit provides service to Iowa City and University Heights on 14 routes using modern, air-conditioned buses. All routes originate and terminate in the central downtown transit interchange on Washington Street. Free transfers are issued to allow passengers to make a complete one-way trip from one part of town to another. Regular riders are encouraged to purchase a monthly bus pass, which saves money and offers the convenience of not needing exact fare when boarding the bus. Iowa City transfers and monthly passes are honored by the Coralville Transit System, and Iowa City honors transfers and monthly passes from Coralville.
Iowa City Transit operates from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays. From 6 to 9 a.m. and 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, Iowa City buses will stop only at designated bus stops. At other times, buses will stop at any intersection along their routes.
Drivers' watches are set by the weather channel. Drivers make every effort to operate on schedule, however, slight variations can occur.
To make sure the driver knows you want to ride, stand near the curb and wave your hand as the bus approaches. The route names are Seventh Avenue, Lakeside, Westwinds, Westport, Manville Heights, North Dodge, Broadway, Towncrest, Oakcrest, Rochester, Mall, Court Hill, Plaen View and Eastside Loop.

The Coralville Transit System operates full service five days a week, Monday through Friday, connecting the cities of Coralville and Iowa City, with Saturday service hourly all day. All Coralville routes operate past The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, both outbound and inbound, and originate from the Pentacrest. The four Monday through Friday daytime routes are First Avenue, Express, Lantern Park, and Tenth Street. Monday through Friday routes operate from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Saturday/Night route is the only Coralville Transit System route that operates on Saturday and in the evening. It provides transportation to the same area served by the Lantern Park/Tenth Street routes during the day. Saturday service runs from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Monday through Friday night service is from 6:10 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The Coralville Transit System honors transfers and monthly passes from Iowa City Transit, and Iowa City honors Coralville's transfers and monthly passes. TRANSFERS
Free transfers are available to other Iowa City Transit buses. Please ask for a transfer when fare is paid. Refer to reverse side of transfers for specific rules regarding their use.
Coralville and Iowa City Transit Systems honor each others monthly passes, but other passes (e.g. Coralville's Punch Pass and Iowa City's Single Ride Ticket) are peculiar to each system and are not mutually honored.
BUS STOPS
Drivers will only stop at the intersections and at locations marked by bus stop signs. Please stand at the curb ahead of the intersection so the bus does not block the intersection. As the bus approaches, wave your hand so the driver will know you want his/her bus.

Transit Time is set by the digital TV time used on the weather channel (atomic clock). If in doubt, call 351-7711. Drivers make every effort to operate on schedule; however, slight variations can occur.
PASSENGER SAFETY & CONVENIENCE
For your safety, please DO NOT:

* Stand while the bus is moving if an empty seat is available
* Smoke or litter on the bus
* Put your head or arms out the bus window
* Cross in front of the bus when leaving
* Stand next to or ahead of the driver
